30 years Anniversary in Rhode Island: A Community Art Program
Since 1995, The New Millennium Art Factory has provided free fine arts instruction to the Rhode Island community. Founded by parents and Muralist-Artist art teacher Alfonso D. Acevedo, this volunteer-run program operates on Saturdays from March through October at the Adams Memorial Free Public Library.
Serving children aged four and up and their families, the curriculum covers drawing, painting, film-video, and photography. The program’s mission is to foster community integration and provide a positive creative outlet for at-risk youth. It is supported by a dedicated network of parents, professional artists, and former students who volunteer as teacher assistants.
A key initiative is the “Let’s Paint My City” project, which features temporary Mobile Murals and a Mobile Gallery displayed in public spaces to beautify cities and promote self-confidence. This public art project, active since 2016, will showcase 2 pieces of the students at PVDFest. The program’s success is made possible through the support of organizations including PRIAA, RISCA, and the City of Pawtucket.
