Enjoy a Barrio Tour and conversation between Marta V. Martínez and Doña Fefa Rosario, who together will talk about the transformation of La Broa’ since the 1960s. Doña Fefa and her husband Tony, opened the first Dominican-owned bodega on Broad Street in Providence in the early-1960s. The Rosarios helped the growing number of families from the Dominican Republic who moved to Rhode Island and made it one of the largest Dominican communities in the United States.

FringePVD Humanities Discussion: Fringe in the time of COVID

During the past sixteen months, artists and presenters have adapted the ways that they create and share work. Experimental programs designed for small audiences moved from the margins to the center of performance culture in Providence and beyond. Join us for a conversation about the roles played by “Fringe Artists” through the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. In this discussion moderated by moderated by Dr. Micah Salkind (City of Providence Department of Art, Culture + Tourism), cultural programming curators/producers Christina Bevilacqua and Janaya Kizzie (Providence Public Library), performance studies scholar Avishek Ganguly (RISD) and multi-media performer and curator Shey Rivera Ríos will consider what “fringe” means today.

THE QUEER LIBERATION DANCE PARTY is FREE thanks to PVDFest! This event will take place at the Haus of Glitter Performance Lab, located on 97 Admiral Street.

Dance the night away in solidarity and celebration of queer-centered anti-racist community! This party is part of our historic intervention in the former home of Esek Hopkins, commander of the slaveship “Sally.” This party is a proclamation that we are reclaiming our history and re-imagining a more just, care-centered world.

So come make history at the Haus of Glitter! BIPOC folks, Trans folks, Gender Non Conforming folks, especially welcome. Parking on Douglass Ave. or take public transportation!

PVDFest in the Park: Mystic Jammers

The Mystic Jammers use sonic science and music metaphysics to drive audiences into a state of ecstasy. The Mystic Jammers are a consortium of highly qualified musicians that have been touring and recording Reggae and Caribbean music for more than 30 years.

PVDFest x Pedestrian Bridge: Jazz at The Guild

Chubby Pockets is a six-piece instrumental ensemble led by bassist and Philadelphia-area native Kweku Kwegyir-Aggrey. The group is heavily jazz influenced, but also draws inspiration from funk, R&B, soul, and groove genres. The band features Maya Polsky on the guitar, Jake D’Ambra on the saxophone, Danny Silverston on the piano, Dan Mach-Holt on the trombone, and Maxx Meether on the drums.
