Providence’s own Christopher Johnson is a tour de force of poetry, theater, and activism. He is an award-winning slam poet whose performances have evolved to incorporate storytelling, music, and dance. Johnson uses his words and commanding presence to explore issues of race, incarceration, and mental illness. His performance history with FirstWorks dates back to its first street festival in 2004. At this year’s festival he will assemble talent from across the Creative Capital to collaborate with aerial dance troupe BANDALOOP on the community-driven performance #PVDPublicCanvas.
