Looping Celluloid: Silents from the Rhode Island Historical Society Film Archives with Live Soundtracking by the PVDLoop All-Stars
As most film buffs know, before the era of talkies and synchronized dialogue feature films often screened with a live accompaniment – a pianist, or perhaps an organist, and even in some cases a small orchestra. In homage to the era of silent film, but also with an eye towards the evolving expressive possibilities of digital tools, Looping Celluloids, curated by sound artist Laurie Amat (pictured here in a photo by James Lastowski) and Rhode Island Historical Society (RIHS) film archivist Becca Bender, celebrates RIHS’ amazing archive and showcases local artists who perform multi-genre music using live looping.
Featuring:
- Laurie Amat (curator and conductor)
-
Alec Redfearn & Matt McLaren – Alec Redfearn and the Eyesores
