Daniel Bernard Roumain, also known simply as DBR, is a composer on a unique musical journey. His innovative musical collaborations span the worlds of modernist composer Philip Glass, choreographer Bill T. Jones, Broadway star Savion Glover, and pop icon Lady Gaga, leading the New York Times to describe him as “about as omnivorous as a contemporary artist gets.”
Known for his signature violin sounds infused with myriad electronic, urban, and African-American music influences, DBR takes his genre-bending music beyond the proscenium. He is a composer of chamber, orchestral, and operatic works; has won an Emmy for Outstanding Musical Composition for his collaborations with ESPN; featured as keynote performer at technology conferences; and created large scale, site-specific musical events for public spaces including PVDFest 2017’s culminating En Masse performance at The Cranston Street Armory.
He returns for his 3rd PVDFest appearance to perform with Providence musicians Kim Trusty and Becky Bass, and spoken word artist Christopher Johnson as THE HUMANIST QUARTET.
During FirstWorks’ 2019-2020 season, Daniel Bernard Roumain (DBR) will be the inaugural FirstWorks Artistic Ambassador. Over the course of a year, DBR will be embedded in our community for a series of workshops, performances, community dinners and conversations.
