PVDFest has always brought communities together and welcomed visitors to the City of Providence. In 2017, we hosted a community dinner for 300 people in Kennedy Plaza and in 2018 we had over 500 couples attempt to break a Guinness World Record for most couples dancing a choreographed dance. For this year’s festival, we are connecting these community events and working with local organizations, such as the student-led Juanita Sanchez Educational Complex (JSEC) Kindness Crew, to encourage participants to spread kindness throughout the festival weekend.

One unique opportunity includes the first-ever Citywide Good Night Lights. Happening on Thursday night (8:30PM), festival participants can part-take in this Providence tradition while bringing PVDFest to the children at Hasbro Hospital. At the conclusion of the Citywide Bike Ride at Hot Club, festival goers will flash lights across the river. Regardless of location, people across the city are encouraged to also participate and record their act of kindness using the #1000ActsPVD throughout the festival weekend. Each participant will be counted towards this year’s 1000 Acts of Kindness initiative.

The 1000 Acts of Kindness program is also inspired by Mayor Elorza’s City of Kindness initiative, launched this past January.
